Obituary for Gary Travis Monroe

ALBA – Services for Gary Travis Monroe, 68, of Alba, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Rev. Wayne Gilcrease officiating.
Burial will be in Enon Cemetery, Alba, under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Mr. Monroe passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014, at his residence.
He was born March 19, 1946, in Dallas to Oscar Vernon and Annie Lois Hudgens Monroe. He had lived in Alba since 1979. He was a self-employed carpenter/contractor and worked for Gaddis Construction in the Dallas area. He married Cynthia Wilson on June 14, 2002, in Alba.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Monroe of Alba; mother, Annie Lois Monroe of Alba; son, Scott Monroe of Mineola; daughters, Shelva Curts and husband Wayne of Mineola, Gloria Brown and husband Doug of Van, Terri Pogue and husband Jerry of Alba, Vonda Nicholson of Mineola, and Amanda Pruitt and husband Ken of Emory; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two on the way; numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Vernon Monroe; son, Gary Travis (Bubba) Monroe; sisters, Linda Jeanine Chase and Lois Arlene Schwab; grandson, Wesley Alan Pruitt.
Pallbearers are Billy Ray Chase, Danny Wilson, David Wilson, Todd Thompson, Craig Thompson, and Chip Weissert.
Honorary pallbearers are retired employees of Gaddis Construction.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 5 to 7 p.m.
