Obituary for Margie Ruth Hooton (McKenzie)

ALBA – Services for Margie Ruth McKenzie Hooton, 97, of Alba, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Alba, with Pastor Kelly Burton and Dr. Clint Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Alba, under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Mrs. Hooton passed away Friday, January 09, 2015, in a Quitman hospital.
She was born Thursday, October 11, 1917, in Alba, to George Kenneth and Lucy Leila Curtis McKenzie. She married Thomas Byron “Barney” Hooton on July 22, 1940, in Alba, and they had been married 61 years at his death in 2001. She lived all of her life in Alba except during her husband’s military service. She taught school at Alba Golden ISD for 25 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alba. She loved teaching, sports, plants and gardening, playing games, reading, traveling, being with family, and poetry.
Survivors include her sons and spouses, Thomas McKenzie “Mac” and Diana Hooton of Miami, Florida, and James Byron “Jim” and Evelyn Hooton of Alba; daughters and spouse, Barbara Caldwell of Mt. Pleasant and Alice Ann and Terry Plum of Plano; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Kim Sloan, Steve Sloan, Stuart and Misti Sloan, Jon and Shannon Plum, Brooke and Rick Herold, Angela Hooton and Brent Wible, Jessica and Matt Maxwell, Joey and Lori Hooton, Mark and Krissy Hooton, and Steve and Abby Hooton; 17 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Megan, Sam, Allie S., Liam, Henry, Margot, Avery, Hayes, William, Isabel, Clayton, Thomas, Allie H., Gemma, Colette, and Eason.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Kenneth McKenzie and Curtis McKenzie; and son-in-law, Dick Caldwell.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m.
