ALBA – Services for Evelyn Loyd Hooton, 66, of Alba, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, at First Baptist Church, Mineola, under direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, with Bro. Mark Neeley and Bro. Reggie Day officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Alba.
Mrs. Hooton passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at a hospital in Tyler.
She was born Tuesday, October 4, 1949, in Grand Saline, TX, to the late Cecil and Mary Polacek Loyd. She married James Byron Hooton on January 1, 1971, in Alba, TX. She lived most of her life in Alba and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mineola. Evelyn taught at the Elementary Schools at both Alba-Golden and Mineola ISD. She enjoyed reading, gardening, line dancing with the Lone Star Steppers, and spending time with her grandkids. She was also a member of Chi Omega Sorority at East Texas State University, Commerce, and Alpha Lambda IOTA.
Evelyn was selfless and had a heart for helping others. Her positive attitude was contagious.
She made the world a brighter place, and she left a legacy through her family, friends, and those she taught.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jim Hooton of Alba; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joey & Lori Hooton of Mineola, Mark & Krissy Hooton of Mineola, and Steve & Abby Hooton of Dallas; brother, James Loyd of Lindale; sister, Barbara Dawson of Mineola; and 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Allie, Colette, Gemma, and Eason.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bob Kurzu.
Pallbearers will be Vince Colvin, Checker Weissert, Kenneth Airheart, Ronnie Gaby, Narwin Gaby, and Errol Barber.
Family visitation will be at the funeral home Friday evening 6-8 p.m.
