GOLDEN – Funeral services for Sarah Elizabeth Harrison Allen, 88, of Golden, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Mineola, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, with Pastor Boyd officiating.
Burial will be in Golden Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at her residence in Golden.
She was born Sunday, November 24, 1929, in Arlington, to the late Ardie and Margie Simpson Harrison. Sarah moved to Golden in 2003 from Arlington. She worked for 24 years as an Electrical Inspector for General Dynamics and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Alba. Her family (four generations) established three churches and a school in Arlington. Sarah was a direct descendant of Jonas Harrison, a delegate of the Convention of 1832 and influential party to Texas’ independence.
Survivors include her sons, Dana Hobbs and wife Kelly of Golden, Dahrel Hobbs and wife Donna of Golden, and Dathan Hobbs of Golden; sister, Betty McKnight of Monohans; brother-in-laws, Allen Avrett and John Dennehy; sister-in-law, Hazel Harrison; seven grandchildren, Canaan, Sarah F., George, Sarah W., Danielle, Amanda, and Ashley; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Allen; sisters, Dorothy Avrett and Frankie Dennehy; and brother, Floyd Harrison.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be John Brackenbury, Caleb Brackenbury, Kindel Burkett, Lamar Burrell, David Roemer, Derek Roemer, Canaan Hobbs, Dwayne McCormack, and Mike Humphries.
