Services for Bro. Jim Atkins, 84, of Silsbee, are scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023, at New Horizon Assembly of God Church, Grand Saline, with Bro. Randy Fisher officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodside Cemetery, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Bro. Jim passed away October 9, 2023, in Silsbee. He was born August 3, 1939, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Marvin Thomas & Mary Ella Estess Atkins. Jim married Judy Slayter in New London, on February 12, 1960. Bro. Jim pastored 5 churches after becoming a licensed ordained minister with the Assemblies of God in 1972. Later, while living in Grand Saline, he worked part-time for Bartley Funeral Home and pastored at First Assembly of God (New Horizon Assembly of God Church), Grand Saline, and Gunner Assembly of God, Lake Fork. They moved to Silsbee 9 years ago, where he was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Jim loved bass fishing, loved his family, and enjoyed joking around and making people laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Marvin & Mary Atkins; sister, Doris Willoughby; and nephew, Alan McDaniel.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Judy Atkins of Silsbee; daughters and sons-in-law, Rich & Terri Pearl of Huntley, Illinois, and Ronnie & Jan Miller of Burleson; son & daughter-in-law, Joe & Shawn Atkins; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Miller, Rich Pearl, Joel Nutt, David Euceda, Brent Hebert, and Bryan Ryndak.
Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Blackmon.

The family will receive friends 2 p.m.- 3 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023, at the church before the service.
