Services for Billie “Bill” Paul Barker, 85 of Canton, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Bro. Lee Evans and Rev. Wade Harman officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Barker was born October 14, 1927 in Fruitvale to Lon Albert & Lillie Mae Hendricks Barker. He passed away August 11, 2013 in Tyler. He spent most of his life in Van Zandt County where he was a member of Cross Roads Nazarene Church and attended Oakland Methodist Church. Throughout his life he worked for Clark Ranch in Carroll; General Dynamics in Ft. Worth; Chance Vault in Grand Prairie where he worked on B36 aircrafts; built houses in Grand Saline with his father-in-law; retired after 25 years of service with Morton Salt Company; owned & operated Colfax Road Texaco; and did small engine repair in Oakland. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, L.A. Barker Jr. and Benny Barker; seven sisters, Callie Bailey, Alta Turner, Cleo Smith, Elree Armstrong, Ethel Armstrong, Leota Winstead and Juanita Norris.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Barker of Canton; son, Dennis Barker and Lois Pearce of Edgewood and her family, Sarah, Mark & Keagan; daughter-in-law, Susan Barker of Grand Saline; two daughters, Linda Eitson and husband Ronald “Bakey” of Hawkins and Annette Barton and husband Kevin of Chandler; sister-in-law, Charlene Barker- d Bois; six grandchildren, Rhonda & Alan Boughton, Rodney Ray & Samantha Eitson, Renee & Vernon Schaefer, Amanda & Dustin Weems, Jessica & Obie Simpkins, Shelby Barton & Michael Berry; six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Madison, Nicholas, Brooklynn, Bryce, Maci and one great-granddaughter on the way; nephew, nieces and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Ray Eitson, Alan Boughton, Vernon Schaefer, Dustin Weems, Obie Simpkins and Michael Berry.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
