Services for Mr. Royce Lee Bates, 81 of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Sand Flat Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Bontrager officiating.
Burial will follow in Sand Flat Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates passed away November 3, 2012 in Tyler. He was born March 22, 1931 in Van Zandt County to J. M. & Ollie Pearl Lee Bates. He spent most all of his life in Van Zandt County where he was a custom farmer. He served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theopa Jones Bates; son, Robin Dee Bates; and daughter, Melanie Jane Bates.
Survivors include his daughters & son-in-law, Penny Robinson of Winona and Laura & Paul Hix of Grand Saline; brother, Robert Bates of Grand Saline; sisters & sons-in-law, Delois Currey of Grand Saline, Charlene & Ronald Morrison of Grand Saline and Beth & Finnis Gordon of Canton; sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper of Tyler; seven grandchildren, Tara Hix, Karla Baker, Lance Davis, Whit Davis, Brian Bough, Paul Hix III, and David Hix; eleven great-grandchildren, Kourtlyn, Courtney, Jewel, Jasmine, Natalie, Jaxson, Anthony, Jayden, Dillon, Addison and Dalton;and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Bough, Lance Davis, Whit Davis, Danny Currey, David Currey and Johnny Currey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Taylor, Johnny Vaughn and David Hix.
Memorials may be made to the COPD Foundation or the American Lung Association.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, November 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
