Connie Jo Bland, 74, of Alba, died on October 15, 2024, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. She was born August 10, 1950, to James R. and Joan Conrod in Winfield, KS. She graduated in 1968, from Winfield High School where she was a leader in academics, school and social activities. (No Class is as Great as the Class of ’68). In 1972, Connie graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She married John C Bland in 1971.
John’s career in construction management resulted in many moves. Connie adopted the motto “Bloom Where You Are Planted”. This motto served her well as she met new people, made new friends, got involved in civic groups and volunteering in the many places where they lived, enjoying residences in Wichita; Atlanta, GA; Orange County, CA; and Dallas, TX. In 2009, John and Connie retired to Lake Fork, TX. Her lasting friendships spanned the country.
Connie loved her family, friends, communities and pets. She made the best of every situation and maintained a positive attitude in the face of serious challenges. People noticed, including the medical staff, who appreciated her determination to seek joy. She was told that people were better for knowing her because of her patience, willingness to teach and her ability to be a positive role model.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents. She is survived by sisters, Becky Jack and Linda Groth of Winfield, Karen Metz of Prairie Village, KS, and brother, David Conrod (Amy) of Marietta, GA; and much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews and their children. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later time.
In lieu of a memorial, Connie asked that you hug your loved ones and find joy in every day.
