EMORY – Thomas Benton Buffington, 71, of Emory, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in a Greenville Hospital. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date under the direction of the family.
He was born July 9, 1944, in Wichita Falls to the late Thomas Doyle and Goldie Ola Williams Buffington. He married Cheryl Lynn Smith in Grapevine, Texas on May 30, 1964. He was a painter in the construction industry, a former chief of police in West Tawakoni, and a former EMS chief of Rains County. He had lived in the Emory area since 1980 after moving from Irving.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Cheryl Buffington of Emory; 2 sons, Shannon Buffington of Irving and Chris Buffington of Emory; daughter, Shawna Buffington Bishop of Wood County; 2 brothers, Emory Buffington of Irving, and Joe Etosh of Wichita Falls; 3 sisters, Shirley Cooper of Irving, Sandra Elms of Irving, and Dorothy Tharp of Tennessee; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
