MINEOLA – Services for Irby Rowayne “Wayne” Caffey, 94, of Mineola, are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary, 319 N. Pacific, Mineola, with Rev. Fred Baker officiating.
Burial will be in DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, at 10 am on Friday, May 20, 2016.
Mr. Caffey passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, at a nursing home in Mineola.
He was born Sunday, February 19, 1922, in Sulphur Springs, to the late James Frank and Edna Mae Smith Caffey. He married Dorcas in August of 1983 in Dallas. They moved from Alba to Mineola in 1997. Wayne served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He spent 8 years on the destroyer USS Jenkins as a signalman. He worked as an assistant Postmaster in DeSoto, retiring after 31 years of service. He also was a member of the VFW Post #7523 in Mineola, the Mineola Lions Club, the Marine Corps League – Mineola Detachment #1278, and of the Mineola Church of Christ.
Survivors include his daughter, Marsha Franklin-Darby and husband Jack Darby of Fort Worth; son, Alan and wife, Bonnie Caffey, of The Colony; 3 grandchildren, Michael Franklin, Bekah and husband, Eric Enriquez, and Victoria Caffey; great-grandson, Rio; step-son, Jack Morris and wife, Kim, of CA; step-grandchildren, Dee Darby of HI and Kristen Darby of Plano; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eloise Saylors Caffey; wife, Louise Caffey; wife, Dorcas Caffey; 2 brothers, Travis Caffey and Dorsey Caffey; 2 sisters, Tera Mae Diamond and Carolyn Baker; and grandson, Derek Franklin.
Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church.
