Services for Mr. R.V. Carnes, 96, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Winskie and Bro. Homer Morgan officiating.
Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.
Mr. Carnes passed away December 4, 2014, in Tyler. He was born January 9, 1918, in Elwood Community of Van Zandt County to William Josh & Clara Bell Hay Carnes. He had lived in Grand Saline since he was 9 years old where he was a rancher all of his life. He spent a lot of time in the river bottom and was the last survivor of the original signers on the note for the Grand Saline Rodeo Association. This cowboy even roped a Bald Eagle one time and donated it to the Dallas Zoo. He also served as President of the Grand Saline Rodeo Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys Marie Armstrong Carnes; daughter, Dwanda Carnes; three brothers, Percy Carnes, Harold Carnes and Gerald D. Carnes; and four sisters, Lillian Sansom, Ruby Lou McCain, Dafphine Boazman McCain and Twanna Petty.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald & Judy Carnes of Grand Saline; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Carnes of Rockwall and Jackie & Ronald Tucker of Grand Saline; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Grand Saline Rodeo Association.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Saline Rodeo Association.
The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
