Services for Rosie L. Carpenter, 74, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Central Pentecostal Church with Bro. Garvin Pulley and Bro. Homer Morgan officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
Mrs. Carpenter passed away April 10, 2014 at her home. She was born August 1, 1939 in the Wisdom Temple Community to DeWitt and Annie Oliver Furrh. Rosie was born and raised in Van where she graduated from Van High School in 1957. She moved to Houston and lived there for 19 years after marrying her husband of 56 years, Dale Carpenter. She had spent the last 38 years in Grand Saline where she was a member of Central Pentecostal Church, was a Sunday school teacher and also played Bass guitar at church. She retired from Van Zandt County after 11 years of service as a tax clerk. She had also worked for 11 years at First National Bank in Grand Saline and one year for Hawkins Nursery. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, H.A. Furrh and Elmer Furrh; sister, Gloy Pearl Kirk; and one infant sister.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Carpenter of Grand Saline; two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane & Suzanne Carpenter of Grand Saline and Coy & Zondra Carpenter of Grand Saline; sister, Darlene Tunnell of Van; five grandchildren, Courtney Kay Cook, Jared Carpenter, Brack Carpenter, Josh Carpenter and Blair Carpenter; three great-grandchildren, Emory Grace Cook, Hudson Cook and Jace Carpenter; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jared Carpenter, Josh Carpenter, Brack Carpenter, Michael Cook, Kevin Tunnell and Dusty Presswood.
Memorials may be made to Autumnwood Hospice in Grand Saline.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
