Graveside services for Mr. Thomas Edwin Cherry, 79, of Fruitvale, are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, November 1, 2021, at Cherry Mound Cemetery, Denison, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
Mr. Cherry passed away October 26, 2021, in Tyler. He was born April 7, 1942, in Denison, to David Bennet & Nellie Catherine Bush Cherry. He spent his early years in Denison and then served in the US Army. He married Sue Brown May 10, 1980 in Fruitvale and they lived in Fruitvale the rest of his life. Thomas was a longtime avid participant at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, where he will be greatly missed. He worked as an auto mechanic most of his life. His hobbies included flea markets, garage sales, old watch repair, knife trading, stamp collecting, and reading. He was also a member of NCWA (National Clock & Watch Association). Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Eugene Cherry and Jasper Bennet Cherry; six sisters, Della, Minnie, Hazel, Ruth, Barbara, and Evelyn.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sue Cherry of Fruitvale; stepson, Barry Harbison; stepdaughter, Lynna Marie Whitaker; three sisters, Patricia Warner, Wanda Salazar, and Sharon Deavers; six grandchildren, Brittany Whitaker, Carl Whitaker, Trina Hill, Kayla Starnes, Taylor Harbison, and Lane Harbison; and numerous other relatives and friends.
