Marjorie Ruth Corbitt, “Margie,” was a small woman with a big heart. Throughout her 74
years on this earth, she touched the hearts of many people from different walks of life.
She always made it a point to look them in the eye and treat them with the kindness she
knew everyone deserved.
Born September 17, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, Margie was the oldest of the six children of
Morris and Billie Baker. She grew up in Kleberg, and like her daddy, she was a born
supervisor who always knew what to do and what needed to be done, and she wasn’t
going to let anyone stand in her way to do it. Her sweet grace matched that
determination and made her a faithful and loyal friend to everyone. Margie knew how to
make people feel loved and seen.
The family would always come first for Margie, whether that family came by blood, faith,
or choice. She loved with all her heart, worrying and praying for them until the day she
died. Those prayers were part of her deep faith and love of Jesus Christ. Her faith would
be the rock that she leaned on for strength through personal trials, a battle against
breast cancer, and the death of her daughter. The Lord and the church would play a
significant role throughout Margie’s life, most notably at Balch Springs Baptist Church
and eventually at the First Baptist Church in Alba.
She could be counted on to make some good food for family gatherings, sew something
to keep you – or her – warm, always watch Wheel of Fortune and the Texas Rangers,
and give her dogs and cats an extra treat.
Margie had many names throughout her life. To family and close friends growing up,
she was Booger. To all her many nieces and nephews, she was Boo Boo. Her kids
called her Mama, and her grandsons called her Nana. But the name she loved most
was wife to John Corbitt. He was her “Love Life,” and she cherished their life together
for 37 years.
Margie is survived by her husband John, her son Ernie Bryant and his wife Ali, daughter
Peggy Eaves, and son John Corbitt and his wife Marlo. She was the proud grandmother
to Johnathan Eaves, Beau and Luke Bryant, Jake Bryant, Dalton White and Brock
Corbitt.
She also leaves behind her baby brother Matt Baker, his wife Cindy Beth, and
brothers-in-law Rick Rumfelt and James Holman. Margie was a beloved aunt to Jenny,
Boedy, Sancy, Brenna, Bubba, Maggie, Margie, Mary, Pete, Bucky, Cliff, Donald, Josh,
Kelley, and Katie, along with their spouses and children.
As a follower of Christ, instead of thinking of who preceded Margie in death, she would
want you to know she’s now reunited with her cherished family and friends, including
her parents, Morris and Billie Baker, her “twin sister” Mary Baker, her brother Wendell
Baker and his wife Lana, her brother William Baker, and her baby sister Cindy Rumfelt.
We rejoice in that she is finally able to hug her daughter, Angel Bryant, once again.
They’re all having a good time in Heaven.
