J.D. “Pete” Crocker

On Thursday, May 16, 2013, J.D. “Pete” Crocker, happily went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 89. Pete was born in Grand Saline, TX on June 10, 1923 to Willis Jackson Crocker and Winnie Era Virginia Fowler Crocker. Today he listens to a million voice angelic choir, in the presence of Jesus and his wife of 66 years, Mary June Caperton Crocker, who went to Heaven October 17, 2008.
Pete and June graduated from Grand Saline High School together in 1940. Pete attended North Texas Teachers College in 1941 and 1942; June completed Draughn’s Business College. Pete served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in Normandy, France, St. Lo, Remagen Bridge, and “Flack Hill” Germany, Ruhr Pocket and Battle of the Bulge, Germany, in the 552nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery. After his discharge from the Army on October 31, 1945, Pete attended Southern Methodist University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Accounting in August of 1948. He worked for the U. S. Treasury Department, IRS, beginning in November 1948, became a Special Agent Criminal Investigator, CID, in April 1951, until he retired in 1977. He received commendations for his work from the Canadian Justice Dept., Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Regional Counsel of Dallas and the United States Attorney’s Office of Dallas. Pete was a member of Holly Brook Baptist Church of Holly Lake Ranch where he was a Deacon. He taught 13-14 year old boys, adults and also in nursing homes for some 40 years. No one loved people more than he. He also was a member of Gideons. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary June Caperton Crocker; two brothers, Wilson Crocker and Arthur Lynn “Buster” Crocker and June’s parents, Reuben and Cordia Caperton, whom Pete loved.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Tanner Crocker of Holly Lake Ranch; two daughters, Sharon Vardeman and husband Tommy of Holly Lake Ranch and Darla Kim Bustillos of Gardendale; two sisters-in-law, Vern Myers and husband Marvin of Ft. Worth, and Doris Montgomery Crocker of Dallas; four granddaughters, Juli Tauzin and husband Paul of Bossier City, LA, Jennifer Edwards and husband John of Haughton, LA, Miranda Rodriguez and husband Jesse of Gardendale and Nikki Sanchez and husband Juan of Gardendale and eleven great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved; four step-children whom he loved, Wanda, Sandra, Kyle and Kent; several nephews, including U.S. Marine Colonel, David Myers; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Hendricks, James Tipps, Ted Farrar, Jim Sawyer, Bill Chisenhall and John Cooke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Peel and JOY Sunday School Class.
