Services for Delois Bates Currey, 96, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dan Gilliam and Dr. Kelly Krone officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Delois Currey passed away on March 20, 2026, in Grand Saline. She was born on June 20, 1929, in East Center, in the Grand Saline area, to Johnnie and Ollie Pearl Lee Bates.
Delois spent her entire life in the Grand Saline community, where she graduated from Grand Saline High School and later married Leland Currey. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.
Alongside her family, she was part of Bates Plant Farm and found great joy in being outdoors. She loved tending to the yard, cutting bushes, and spending time shelling peas—simple pleasures that reflected her hardworking spirit and love of home.
Delois is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leland Currey; daughter, Dorcie Youngblood; two brothers, Royce Lee Bates, and James Robert Bates; and sister, Charlene Morrison.
Survivors include her three sons, Johnny Currey and wife Jane of Alba, Danny Currey and wife Blair of Grand Saline, and David Currey and wife Jennifer of Brady; sister, Mary Beth Bryant and husband Don of Grand Saline; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandy Currey of Canton; son-in-law, Kerry Youngblood of Grand Saline; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Sam Currey, Kason Currey, Noah Youngblood, Nolan Youngblood, Mace Youngblood, and Ryan Currey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Bates, Bob Gray, Mark Beatty, Galloway Darby, Joey Gilmer, and Larry Tull.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Grand Saline Public Library, P.O. Box 173, Grand Saline, TX, 75140; Oakland Cemetery, P.O. Box 1054, Canton, TX, 75103; or First United Methodist Church, 501 N Main St, Grand Saline, TX 75140.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
