Graveside services for Norma Mitchell Flanary, 87, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at Rodgers Cemetery, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Norma Berneice Mitchell Flanary passed away December 20, 2024, in Quitman. She was born May 21, 1937, in Weatherford, to Cay & Nova Howry Mitchell. Norma had lived in Grand Saline since 1953, worked as a nurse’s aide for many years, and had attended New Frontiers Cowboy Church in Wills Point. She lived life with an adventurous spirit, always ready to "run the roads" and share conversations with friends over the phone. Norma enjoyed the simple joys of life, whether it was fishing, playing a lively game of BINGO, or scratching off lottery tickets in search of a win.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oliver Houston Flanary; sister, Jetta Dalton; and granddaughter, Jana Smith.
Survivors include her son, Michael “Pete” Flanary of Grand Saline; daughter, Janice Strickland and husband David of Grand Saline; four grandchildren, Norma Smith, Travis Smith, Michelle Countryman and husband Colby, and Mandi Flanary; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at 9 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home before the graveside service.
