James Giles

Services for Mr. James Lee Giles, 88, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Bro. Carl Samples and Bro. Billy Clyde Carter officiating.

Interment will be in Creagleville Cemetery.

Mr. Giles passed away October 18, 2023, in Tyler. He was born March 23, 1935, in Rusk to Robert Lee & Enna Idell Samples Giles. James served in the US Army for 6 years and married his wife, Pat Carter Giles, in 1963. He lived in Garland for 10 years and then the last 43 years in Grand Saline where he was a member of Sand Flat Baptist Church. James was a truck driver for 20 years, a member of the Teamsters Union #997, cut firewood and hauled hay. Mr. Giles was preceded in death by his parents; Robert Lee “Arvin” Giles and Enna Samples Giles; four brothers, Frank Giles, Barney Giles, Billy Giles, and Harry Giles; and two sisters, Frances Allison, and Verna Nell Maxey.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Pat Giles; five daughters, Renee Miller and husband Tony of Grand Saline, Cheree Davis and husband Mark of Grand Saline, Sharlene Garrett and husband Shawn of Scurry, Darlene LaPrade and husband Jason of Fruitvale; and Kristi Giles of Grand Saline; sister, Juanita Cogburn of Cement, OK; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Brown, Matt McKeen, Donovan Brown, Connor Garrett, Justin Miller, Robert Davis, and Bobby Giles.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Miller, Mark Davis, Shawn Garrett, Jason LaPrade, and Mark Taylor.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at the funeral home.
