ALBA – Services for Walter A. Hamrick, 88, of Gainesville, formerly of Yantis, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba, with John Hensman officiating. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery, Yantis.
He passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, in the Gainesville hospital.
He was born May 7, 1926, in Yantis to the late Needam Columbus and Bertie Jane McQueen Hamrick. He worked in the oil fields around Odessa and in southeastern New Mexico, mostly for Wharton Drilling Company. Since his retirement in 1988, he enjoyed woodworking, watching TV and listening to country music.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Hamrick of Odessa; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Andrew Read of Gainesville, and Barbara and Eddie Huckabee of Allen; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Read, Ben Read, Marci and Brian Douthit, David Hamrick and Nancy Gonzalez, Brooks Hamrick and Erin Steinwright; 6 great-grandchildren, Joseph Read, Andrew Read, Harper Hamrick, Elias Douthit, Jaxon Douthit and Alysa Douthit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerome Leslie Hamrick; brothers, Delane Hamrick, Frank Holland, Virgil Holland, and Harvey Holland; sisters, Oleta Hooten and Aileen Green, granddaughter, Lee Ann Huckabee, and step-granddaughter, Kristen Montgomery.
