Graveside services for Mr. L.D. Hewitt, 90, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012 at Rogers Cemetery with Rev. David Hewitt officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Hewitt passed away December 1, 2012 in a Grand Saline hospital. He was born July 25, 1922 in Grand Saline to Lafayette Donnie & Nanny Belle Connelly. He was born and raised in Grand Saline and then moved to Dallas. He retired from the City of Dallas where he worked with their Street Dept. He moved back to Grand Saline in 2001 after his wife’s death. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Delilah Hewitt; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale & Sue Hewitt, Ray & Margaret Hewitt and Ernest Hewitt; grandson, Jeffrey Hewitt; great-grandsons, Preston Edwards and Chandler Sletten; son-in-law, Gary Hoffman; and brothers, William, Leonard and Billy Earl Hewitt.
Survivors include 4 sons, Phillip Hewitt of Winona, Coy, David and James Hewitt, all of Dallas; 8 daughters, Mary Sletten of Mabank, Carolyn Butler of Grand Saline, Rita Trowbridge of Crandall, Donna Yeargan and Margie Hogue, both of Dallas, Frances Hoffman, Vickie Hewitt and JoNell Hewitt, all of Balch Springs; 2 sisters, Edith Shivers of Grand Saline, Mildred English of Weatherford; sister-in-law, Dana Lou Hewitt of Mena, AR; 38 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
