LONE OAK – Funeral services for Bobby Joe Houchin, 88, of Lone Oak, are scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Lone Oak Baptist Church, with Bro. Robert Cook officiating.
Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery, Lone Oak, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Lone Oak.
Mr. Houchin passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at his residence in Lone Oak.
He was born October 1, 1928, in Amarillo, to the late Jess Esther and Sarah Irene Vandever Houchin. Bobby married Betty Jo Eads on December 31, 1952, in Dallas. He served in the Marines for two years after high school and had lived in the Lone Oak area for the last 24 years. Bobby was a Postal Carrier and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Richard and wife, Gayle Houchin of Talty, Gary and wife Melanie Houchin of Quinlan, and Michael Houchin of Lavon; daughter, Linda and husband, Nathan Barrett of Lone Oak; sister, Norene Pasley of Mesquite; sister-in-law, Ann Houchin of Greenville; 22 grandchildren, Steve and Tina Barrett, Jason and Laura Barrett, Monte and Kelly Alvis, JR and Lori Houchin, Greg and Lisa Houchin, Jeremy and Sarah Houchin, Chad and Melissa Houchin, Brent Houchin, Matt and Ally Houchin, Lindsay and David Rutherford, Zach, Chase and Makenzie Houchin; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Preston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Betty Jo Houchin; brothers, J.E. Houchin and Donald Houchin; sisters, Sayra Kuzminski and Joyce Renfro; granddaughter, Amanda Michelle Houchin; and great-grandson, Kanon Cash Rutherford.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the following: Glenda Bradshaw, Jennifer and Dominque, and Ladonna from Kindred Hospice, Keri Goodwin and Nikki Haynes. You all showed him incredible love and care.
Pallbearers will be Steve Barrett, Monte Alvis, JR Houchin, Jeremy Houchin, Brent Houchin, Matt Houchin, Zach Houchin, and Chase Houchin.
Honorary pallbearers are Jason Barrett, Greg Houchin, David Rutherford, and Chad Houchin.
Family visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
