Legacy of Chesteen Hughes

When a soldier goes to war and fights,
Displaying courage, stamina and strength
His return is honored with medals and parades,
Praise for him goes to any length.

Chesteen Hughes was such a warrior,
Tho not serving in foreign, distant lands,
Her field of service was always her home.
Where for children she took her stand.

Four children she raised with honor,
Each day supplying all of their needs.
Making sure they made church on Sunday.
Her fighting position was on bended knees.

Then grandchildren and yes, there are many
And greats, not just ones, but twos.
There was nothing that this sweet lady,
For those children would not try to do.

Now her time of service has ended.
God at last has called her home
Jesus came and lovingly took her.
And in Heaven she now makes her home.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow.
Her gentle smile and touch is so missed.
But she now waits for us up in Heaven
Where she’ll meet us with a smile and a kiss.

Her legacy is that she loved Jesus.
Teaching that in all of her ways,
Loving and giving and praying.
All her life to the very last day.
