Wilma Creel Jernigan
January 6, 1947 – January 6, 2025
Wilma Creel Jernigan, 78, of Canton, passed away on January 6, 2025. Born on January 6, 1947, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to Joe Lewis and Eula Lee Hall Creel, Wilma spent her early years in South Texas, five years in Waxahachie, and the last 27 years in Canton. She had many occupations throughout her career but nurses aid was her most rewarding. Wilma had a deep love for crafting, always eager to create something beautiful with her hands. Though she didn’t bake as much in later years, baking was a joy she loved to share, teaching her family how to create delicious cakes and treats. Whether it was showing someone how to sew or sharing the secrets of a perfect recipe, she cherished being a teacher and passing down her knowledge. Her grandchildren fondly remember playing Monopoly Go with her, laughing as she delighted in outsmarting them. Another cherished memory was her love of harvesting pecans—she was always on the lookout for trees, often with her grandkids or friends by her side. A devoted Christian and woman of unwavering faith, Wilma poured love into everyone she met, always giving freely of herself and giving thanks to the Lord for the ability to bless others. She attended Round’em Up Cowboy Church in Wills Point.
Wilma leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will be treasured by all who knew her.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe Billy Parker; three sisters, Ollie Mae Williams, Alma Lee "Aunt Kid" Annis, and Ann Ruth Taylor; and brother, Joe Lewis Creel, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, LaDeania Summerfield and husband Dale of Canton; brother, James Robert Creel and wife Kaye of Canton; three grandchildren, Mason Jernigan, Hope Marsh, and Amber Jones; special niece, Debra Rollins of Wills Point; and numerous other relatives and friends.
