Joseph Matteson

Memorial services for Joseph Christopher Matteson, 38, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Jeremy Harrell officiating.

Joseph Matteson passed away on December 16, 2025, in Canton, Texas. He was born on March 22, 1987, in Buffalo, New York.

Joseph moved to Van Zandt County 31 years ago. Following his graduation from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Seattle, Washington. On May 8, 2009, he married Stephanie Stallings in Edgewood, Texas. Joseph was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton.

He worked as a driller in the oil field. In his free time, Joseph enjoyed riding motorcycles and fishing, but above all, he dearly loved his dogs—Gracie, Ruby, and Bella.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Stephanie Matteson of Grand Saline; his mother, Teresa Matteson of Edgewood; his son, Evan Matteson of Grand Saline; his brother, Michael Allen of Edgewood; in-laws, James and Mable Stallings of Edgewood; father-figure, “Scooter” Smith of Edgewood; second mom, Jackie Buccafurno of Edgewood; and numerous other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
