Joshua Phillip Matthews, 39, of Alba, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Mineola. He was born on March 11, 1986, in Victoria, to Danny and Genny Matthews.
Joshua was raised in Victoria and graduated from Victoria High School. Thirteen years ago, he made his home in the Alba area. On February 8, 2014, he married the love of his life, Ashley Erin Scogin, in Mineola, beginning a marriage built on love, faith, and family.
Joshua was a devoted member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and had a heart for serving others. Known as a man of many talents, he was both musically gifted and technically skilled. He faithfully used his abilities to serve his church and those around him. Above all, Joshua will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished son-in-law whose life was centered on his family and his faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his sister, Cindy Colson; and his brother-in-law, Marvin Ray Scogin.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 12 years, Ashley Erin Matthews; his son, Jackson Matthews; and his daughter, Audrey Matthews, all of Alba. He is also survived by his brothers, James Matthews and wife Donna of Katy, Timothy Matthews and wife Kerry of Anchorage, Alaska, and Nathan Matthews and wife Rachel of Katy; his in-laws, Marvin and Althea Scogin of Alba, his nephews, Trevor, Evan, Lucas, and Noah; his nieces, Ava, Dayleigh, and Olivia; and great-nephew, Jackson Lee; along with numerous other relatives and friends who will dearly miss him.
Memorials can be made to Sand Springs Baptist Church Youth Camp, P.O. Box 467, Mineola, Texas 75773.
Services for Joshua are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Sand Springs Baptist Church, Mineola, with Bro. Brandon Gray, Bro. Greg Wright, and Bro. Kevin Wright officiating, under the direction of the church and family. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the church.
