In Loving Memory of Kenneth Richard Mawby
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Kenneth Richard Mawby, who left this world on December 4, 2025. Born on December 7, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Ken was the son of George and Jeanette Mawby, both of whom have also passed away.
Ken’s enduring legacy lives on through his devoted family and friends, who will cherish the memories, stories, and lessons he imparted. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara, and their children: Karen King (Greg), Michelle Hubbard (Darrell), and Jeff Mawby (Jamie). Ken is also survived by his sisters, Elaine Noble (Bruce) and Linda Knaack (Bob – deceased). Ken was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Ashley Murray (JD), Eric Bain (Janna), Lauren Johnson (Garrett Holmes), Austin Mawby, Kayla East (Robert), and Jenna Mawby. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Madeline, Ethan, Jackson, Addyson, and Makynli.
Ken’s strong work ethic guided him through two successful careers. He began his professional life in the family restaurant business, becoming well-known in Cleveland and Twinsburg, Ohio, for his famous Mawby burgers. In 1979, Ken and Barbara moved to Texas, where Ken joined the now defunct Next Door Restaurants, starting at the Carrollton location and eventually managing all three restaurants. After leaving the restaurant industry, Ken pursued his passion for cars. He spent 6 years at Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas before moving to James Wood Motors in Decatur, serving as Head of Fleet Sales for 20 years before retiring.
Ken also served in the Ohio National Guard and the Army Reserves. He was a devoted supporter of law enforcement, serving as President of Lodge 108 of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates in Ohio from 1975 to 1977. Ken’s love for making food was evident to all who knew him, especially his family and friends who often enjoyed his delicious burgers with grilled onions and home fries.
A memorial and reception will be held on Saturday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Village Cabana, 4100 Cabana Ct., Rockwall, TX 75087. All who knew Ken are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors or the Fraternal Order of Police in Ken’s honor.
