Mr. Homer Earl “Daw” Latta, 79, of Lake Fork, passed away September 21, 2013 in Tyler. He was born January 24, 1934 in Grand Saline to Dennie “Fat” & Atha Martin Latta. He spent his early years in Grand Saline where he graduated from Grand Saline High School and married his high school sweetheart, Fay Nell Edwards, on Valentine’s Day 1953. He worked for Texas Pacific Railroad, Missouri Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad. Throughout his railroad career, he and his family lived in Ft. Worth; Falls City, Nebraska; Big Spring; DeQuincy, Louisiana; and Houston before returning in 1990 to Lake Fork. He retired as an electrician from the railroad after 39 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grand Saline. Homer was devoted to his family and everyone knew him as “Daw.” He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and attended all of their activities at school. Daw will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Martin Dean Latta.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nell Latta of Lake Fork; five grandchildren, Shannon & Justin Phillips of Grand Saline, Jacy Latta of College Station, Dean Latta of Denton, Greg Latta of Grand Saline and T.J. Ollison of Grand Saline; one great-granddaughter, Brynna Phillips of Grand Saline; daughter-in-law, Beverly Latta of Grand Saline; brother-in-law, Billy Dean & Peggy Edwards of Waco; and numerous other relatives and friends.
