Memorial Services for Margaret Means Mazar, 86, of Grand Saline, Texas, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Bartley Funeral Home, with her grandson, Matt Austin, officiating.

Margaret passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, in Grand Saline. Born on December 10, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas, Margaret was the daughter of Travis Irvin Cotter and Lillian Ruth Rose Cotter. She grew up in Devine, Texas, where she graduated from Devine High School. In 1958, she made Grand Saline her home, beginning a lifelong connection to the community she loved and served so faithfully.

Margaret spent many years working in accounting as a tax specialist, earning a reputation for her dedication and knowledge. Her commitment to her community extended well beyond her career. She was a founding member of the Grand Saline Youth Foundation and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Cozby Germany Hospital. In recognition of her contributions and service, she was honored as Grand Saline Woman of the Year.

While Margaret accomplished much throughout her life, her family was always among her greatest blessings. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother. To her grandchildren, she was much more than a grandmother—she was their beloved “Nana,” a special presence in their lives whose love and influence will continue to live on through the generations. Margaret was loved by many, and her kindness, dedication, and deep family ties left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jimmy Cotter and James Lee “Skeeter” Cotter; and her sister, Bonnie Gandy.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Lou Mazar of Grand Saline; her two sons, Mark Means and wife Yolanda of Grand Saline, and Jeff Means and wife Karen of Fruitvale; her two daughters, Denise Means of Grand Saline, and Kelly Scarborough and husband Clint of Grand Saline; 11 grandchildren, Montie Austin, Jodi Means McDonald, Matt Austin, Mitzi Means Van Winkle, Derek Poth, Morgan Means Soules, Railey Ditto, Kayla Jacks Redmon, Randall Morgan, Jessica Thompson, and Craig Morgan; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.
