Services for Bessie Jean Dunning Mays, 82, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Creagleville Cemetery with Bro. D’Wayne Williams officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mays passed away May 26, 2016, in Grand Saline. She was born May 11, 1934, in Dallas, to Thomas Jefferson & Ruby Josephine Davis Dunning. She spent most of her life in Grand Saline and was a member of Liberty Temple Church. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maron Mays; two sisters, Barbara Dunning and DeAnna Dunning; two brothers, Ray O’Neil and William “Buddy” Dunning; grandson, Timothy Joe Dorough; and son-in-law, Tim Dorough.
Survivors include her son, Thomas “Sam” & Chris Mays of Ft. Worth; four daughters, Ruby & Jimmy Carter of Alba, Bobbie Sue & Fiancé John Rosen of Lakewood, CO, Sherry & Keith Nicely of Meeker, OK, and Dawn Young of Meeker, OK; two brothers, Thomas Jefferson & Kendra Dunning of Santa Fe and Roy Douglas & Nancy Dunning of Seabrook; five grandchildren, Christy Johnson of Lakewood, CO, Brandee & Bobby Cotton of Van, Brian & Cecilia Carter of Forney, Keri & Scott Findly of Grand Saline and Casey & Zack Coulter of Robinson; eleven great-grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Seamus Johnson, Brittany Cotton, Tanis & Samantha Cotton, Skylar Cotton, Reece Cotton, Colt Carter, Cleighton Schedule, Mason Schedule, Ethan Findly and Parker Coulter; one great-great-granddaughter, Krynn Cotton; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tanis Cotton, Daniel Johnson, Skylar Cotton, Seamus Johnson, Reece Cotton, Cleighton Schedule, Mason Schedule and Brian Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Colt Carter and Ethan Findly.
The family will receive friends 10 a.m., Saturday at the cemetery.
