John Means

Memorial services for Mr. John Everett Means, 95, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Bartley Funeral Home.

Mr. Means passed away August 12, 2021, in Quitman. He was born December 14, 1925, in Cuero, to Hughey Martin & Francis Evelyn Morrow Means. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Whiteside. He worked as a roughneck, and eventually retired from Delta Drilling as a Drilling Superintendent. John was a rancher and had baled hay most of his life. He was also a member of VFW Post 6635, as a Commander. Mr. Means is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Kenneth Means, Murry Means, and Carl Means.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Louise Means of Grand Saline; two sons, Mark Means and wife Yolanda of Grand Saline and Jeff Means and wife Karen of Fruitvale; two daughters, Denise Means of Grand Saline, and Kelly Scarborough and husband Clint of Grand Saline; sister, J'Net Brewer of Yoakum; eleven grandchildren, Montie, Jodi, Matt, Mitzi, Derek, Morgan, Railey, Kayla, Randall, Jessica, and Craig; many great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Jim Poston and wife Carol of Tyler, and Gilley Poston and wife Gay of Alba; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
