Murry Means

Services for Murry W. Means, 76 of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Pat Day and Rev. Don Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodside Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Means passed away July 20, 2012 in Plano. He was born August 16, 1935 in Stratton Community, outside of Yoakum, to Hughie Martin & Fannie Evelyn Morrow Means. He spent his early years in Yoakum where he graduated from Yoakum High School. He married his High School sweetheart, Dolores Zacharias, in Yoakum where they had their four children and he worked at Eddy Packing Co. until 1964. In 1965, a year after moving to Grand Saline, Murry began working for First National Bank. He worked his way up from teller to loan officer and finally to Vice-President. In 1986, the bank closed and Murry went to work for Wallace & Murray Insurance Company in Grand Saline. He was employed there for 10 years. Murry also served on the Van Zandt Co. Child Welfare Board for 6 years; the Grand Saline ISD School Board for 14 years; the Grand Saline EDC; and numerous other boards. Murry was the Director of Cozby-Germany Hospital for 15 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class. Murry also was a member of the Grand Saline Masonic Lodge; Grand Saline Rodeo Association; and a Volunteer Auctioneer for the Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce & the Boy Scouts. Murry loved giving the yearly pep talk at the Grand Saline High School Homecoming Pep Rally. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Kenneth Means; and daughter, Brenda Gale Woodrum.
Survivors include wife, Dolores Means of Grand Saline; son, Mike Means and wife Dena of Grand Saline; daughters, Sherry Wright and husband Rick of Grand Saline and Jodi Bass and husband Brad of Flatonia; brothers, John Means & wife Louise of Grand Saline, Carl Means and wife Pat of Grand Saline; sister, J'Net Brewer and husband Damon of Yoakum; 13 grandchildren, Katy Housden, Zack Woodrum, Allyson McIntosh, Abbie Wright, Case Wright, Max Wright, Dillon Means, Cole Means, Spencer Means, Sawyer Means, Jacob Bass, Raegan Bass and Micaul Bass; 2 great-grandsons, Grant & Lane Housden.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Zack Woodrum, Casey Wright, Max Wright, Dillon Means, Cole Means, Spencer Means, Sawyer Means and Jacob Bass.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class and Wiley Garland III, Billy Woodrum, Don Yarbrough, Floyd Stewart, Tommy Stewart, Jr. Curtis, Leon Clower, Truman Heddins and Loy Weaver.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
