GREENVILLE – Memorial services for Alvis Claudine McAbee Gates Mershon, 84, of Commerce, formerly of Alba, are scheduled for Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 2 p.m, at Park Street Baptist Church, 2205 Park Street, Greenville, under the direction of the family and church with Bro. Johnny Hailes officiating.
    
    Mrs. Mershon passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016, at a Plano hospital.
    
    She was born on Tuesday, March 8, 1932, in Wolfe City, to the late Albert Franklin and Pervie Mae Jones McAbee. Claudine worked as a postmaster for a total of 30 years and retired after 10 years at the Alba Post Office. She was a member of the Church of Christ and spent her early life in Alba.
    
    Survivors include her twin sons, Alton & Lana Gates of Wichita Falls and Dalton & Jeanne Gates of Greenville; four grandchildren, Rachel Gates Corbani of Destin, FL, Dalton D Gates, Jr of Greenville, Mandy Gates Hyden of Greenville, and James Smith of Greenville; nine great-grandchildren, Bella, Franco, James Austin, Zadie, Jamison, Daron, Daniel, Dustin, and Megan; two great-great-granddaughters, Aubrey Kay and Olivia; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
    
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phil Mershon; brothers, Thomas McAbee, Aubrey McAbee, Ben McAbee, and Bervie Lee McAbee; sister, Lettie McAbee Fischer; two infant sisters; two infant brothers; grandson, George Smith; and great-grandson, Jonathan Smith.
    
    Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
