Services for Thomas Melvin Monk, 86, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Bro. Homer Morgan officiating.
Interment will be in Creagleville Cemetery.
Mr. Monk passed away April 8, 2025, in Grand Saline. He was born September 9, 1938, in Grand Saline, to Thomas Benjamin and Gladys Irene (Douthitt) Monk. Thomas lived in Grand Saline all his life. He owned and operated Monk Mobil in Grand Saline for many years. Later, he began Thomas Monk Construction and built houses all over Grand Saline and the surrounding areas. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing dominoes, and spending time with family. Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Annie Lucille Monk; brothers, David Monk and Rayford Monk; infant brother, Randolph Monk; and sister, Immogene (Monk) Wilson.
Survivors include his son, Thomas (Tommy) Vernon Monk; two daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Denise Davis and husband Harlan and Tammie Lucille Monk; and his girlfriend, Deborah Owens all of Grand Saline; bonus kids, Larry Owens of Grand Saline and Cassie Sanchez of Terrell; two sisters, Nelda Jo Meroney and Patsy Means both of Grand Saline; 6 grandchildren, Konstance (Monk) Miller, Kandace (Crisafulli) Phillips, Wesley Davis, Mason Monk, Cody Monk, and Mallory (Monk) Thayer; 25 great-grandchildren; his beloved cat, Oscar; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Davis, Mason Monk, Cody Monk, Brian Means, Cody Rodgers, and Dewey Meroney.
Honorary pallbearers are Doyle Milliorn, Haward Stone, Terry Goggans, and Bobby Jennings.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Deborah, for loving and caring for Thomas. They would also like to thank Cassie Sanchez, Carolyn Barrett, Margie Hewitt, Rick Taylor, Larry Owens, Stacy Taylor, Ramsey Vass, and Starla Owen for all their help caring for Thomas.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
