Services for Norma Jean Thompson, 95, of Fruitvale, are scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church, Fruitvale, with Pastor Freddy Burden and Pastor Gary Vaughn officiating, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
Interment will be in Haven of Memories Cemetery, Canton.
Norma Jean passed away September 7, 2026, at her home in Fruitvale. She was born March 7, 1931, in Van Zandt County, to Jesse H. & Carrie C. Owens Boddie. She spent all her life in the Van Zandt County area where she was a member of First Baptist Church, Fruitvale. Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, L.V. Thompson; three sons, Virgil Wayne Thompson, Gary Don Thompson, and Larry Dale Thompson; one daughter-in-law, Becky Thompson; one son-in-law, Mike Higginbotham; six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Higginbotham of Grand Saline; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Thompson (Gerald) of Fruitvale; June Brown of Donie; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Chad (Tracy), Kristi (Scott), Ashley (James), Carrie (Brandon), Corey (Dee), Emilia (Matt), and Addy (Bailey); fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Thompson, Corey Thompson, Jason Thompson, James Bowden, Brandon Longenbaugh, Kyler Fink, and Canyan Freeman.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church – Fruitvale, P.O. Box 177, Fruitvale, TX, 75127.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
