Carmen "Luis" Ortega

Funeral services for Carmen G. “Luis” Ortega, 74, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Alex Gonzalez officiating.

Interment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.

Luis passed away at his home, Friday, November 17, 2023. He was born July 16, 1949, in Rio Hondo, Texas to the late Gregorio and Francisca Ortega. Luis has lived in the Silver Lake Community for the last 45 years and was previously of Mexico and Dallas. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Luis was a man of strong faith and later became an ordained Minister. He worked for many years as a Foreman on the Silver Lake Ranch, served on the Pine Ridge Water Board, the Silver Lake Cemetery Association, and was a member of the Los Sembradores gospel group. Luis was preceded in death by his wife, Cilviya Rubio Ortega in 2017; his parents; daughter, Olga Tovar; and son-in-law, Jeffery Rodriguez.

He is survived by his six daughters, Irene Aguilar of Dallas, Carol Rubio of Dallas, Sylvia Rubio and husband, Arturo of El Paso, Veronica Ortega and Jesus Lopez of Grand Saline, Marriah Phillips and husband, Clint of Canton, and Adel Maitland of Austin; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Clint Phillips, Rafael Amaya, Pablo Palma, Benjamin Aguilar, Bro. Randy Warden, and Randy Aguilar.

Family will receive friends from 1p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
