Alvin Phillips
Services for Alvin Phillips, 81 of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Bartley Funeral Home with Ken Maddox officiating.
Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips passed away January 5, 2013 in Grand Saline. He was born December 3, 1931 in Stone Point to Richard Martin & Della Verta Brown Phillips. He spent his early years in Van and graduated from Van High School. He served in the U. S. Army and spent six years in the U. S. Army Reserves. He lived the last 57 years in Grand Saline where he was a farmer and truck driver. He retired from Tyler Pipe after 30 years of service. Mr. Phillips was a member of Grand Saline Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Waymond Phillips; infant sister, Bettie Jo Phillips; sisters, Kathlene Campbell, Jean Fansler McQueen and LaVerne Brown; and two great-granddaughters, Vanessa Cervantes and Jillian LaPrade.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Phillips of Grand Saline; two sons, Tony Phillips and Sherri Clark of Quitman, and Byron Phillips and wife Tina of Ft. Worth; two daughters, Cindy Allen of Chandler; and Cheryle LaPrade and husband Lee of Grand Saline; two brothers, Vernon Phillips of Edgewood and Raymond Phillips and wife Martha of Lindale; twelve grandchildren, Ashley Parmer, Courtney Hogue, Britney Childers, Amber Cervantes, Megan Menasco, Melanie Gary, Chad, Cody and Cade Lee, and Steven, Shawn and Sawyer LaPrade; fourteen great-grandchildren, Hudson, Ella Grace, Amry, Gage, Hunter, Gavin, Lily, Max, Owen, Lola, Zander, Cain, Carter and Kalynn and one on the way, Baby Hogue; beloved family friend, Juan Aguado of Grand Saline; and many other relatives and friends.
