Services for Helen Whitus Pomes, 78 of Alba, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Caney Creek Cowboy Church with Bro. Bimmy Boyles officiating.
Interment will follow in Cottonwood Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
Mrs. Pomes passed away April 5, 2013 in Tyler. She was born October 7, 1934 in Wood County to Everett & Beatrice Nichols Whitus. She was born and raised in the Cottonwood Community, spent 36 years in Dallas and retired back to East Texas. She attended Caney Creek Cowboy Church in Grand Saline. Mrs. Pomes served many years on the Cottonwood Cemetery Association, holding several seats as President and Treasurer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Bernard Pomes; and one brother, E.B. Whitus.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Jennifer Pomes of Mesquite; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Duane Peace of Grand Saline and Sharon & Carl Kirkland of Dallas; four brothers, Harvie Whitus of Virginia, Ray Whitus of Virginia, Windell Whitus of Grand Saline and Joe Clyde Whitus of Terrell; three sisters, Joy Dowell of Mesquite, Jane Currey of Alba and Billie Boyles of Alba; six grandchildren, Donald, Christie, Angela, Sherri, Sarah and April; seven great-grandchildren, Cody, Matthew, Joshua, Brandon, Jade, Grace and Saxon; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas or Cottonwood Cemetery Association.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
