On May 3, 2022, Colera Mae Murray Pope passed away peacefully at age 96 surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 9, 1926, in Ft. Worth to Felix Alonzo and Clara Belle Holland Murray Sr., she lived nearly her entire life in Dallas. She married the love of her life, Virgil Vinson Pope, and spent many happy years growing their wonderful family together near White Rock Lake.
Colera was an exceptional wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She cared deeply for her family and friends, never missing an activity or event. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Her selflessness and focus on others above her own needs was incredibly inspiring and impacted those around her.
Colera was a member at Saturn Road Church of Christ. Her deep faith and love of God was apparent to everyone she met. Her days were filled with neighborliness and acts of charity done quietly and happily performed. As her ministry, she regularly wrote notes of encouragement to those in need of prayer at her church, affectionately earning the title of “The Card Lady”.
She lived in the same house for decades, where she hosted regular Sunday afternoon lunches for family and friends. Neighbors would often find Colera working in her yard, tending to her famous pink roses, for which she received many compliments.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil Vinson Pope, son Virgil Wayne Pope, son Robert Wesley Taylor; brothers Johnny Morgan, Leon Morgan, Sisters Essie Richardson, Louise Nash, and June Crews.
Colera is survived by three daughters; Yvonne Taylor, Sheila Roidopoulos and husband Kostas, and Rhonda Xenos and husband George all of Dallas; brother, Floyd Murray Sr. and wife Diane of Kemp; by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter; many loving nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Murray, Jr. Caleb Murray, Brandon Bamburg, Edward Nevels, Chris Reagan, Ashley Huey, III.
Happy Mother’s Day to the greatest mother we could ever ask for.
