Services for Vonda Jean Ragsdale, 90, of Alba, are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, with Dr. Algia Allen & Dr. Richard Allen officiating.
Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery.
Vonda Jean McCollum Ragsdale passed away Friday, May 13, 2022, in Sulphur Springs. She was born October 28, 1931, to Lillie Mae Robbins McCollum and Edgar Raymond McCollum on a small farm near Bellview, about ten miles southwest of Alba. She married Walter Ragsdale and lived in the Alba area all her life. Vonda retired as a hairdresser, was a devout Christian, a great cook, and was kind and helpful to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ragsdale, Sr., sisters, Frauline Gresham and Dorothy Allen as well as her brother, Raymond McCollum. Also preceding her in death was one grandchild, Wynette Case. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanie Craig and her husband Larry; son, Mike Ragsdale and his wife Gloria; son, Walter Ragsdale, Jr. and his wife Mary.
She was precious to her grandchildren, Annette Morgan, Lynette Weatherly, Michael Ragsdale, Jeremy Ragsdale and Mason Ragsdale. Whenever possible, she doted on her 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua Cotter, Madison Case, Chris Spanko, Kenzie Fitzgerald, Hunter Farrington, Ty Garrett, Kadence and Abby Thompson, Lucy and Harry Ragsdale, and Barrett Ragsdale, and her 2 great-great-grandchildren, Braxton and Maddox Fitzgerald. Also, counted among her close family are cousins, many nieces and nephews, and in-laws. Her loving personality and the fact that she was one of the last of her generation in the McCollum and Ragsdale family have made her a surrogate mom and grandmother to not only these but many more. She leaves a host of Christian brothers and sisters, friends and acquaintances.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Ragsdale, Mason Ragsdale, Harry Ragsdale, Jason Allen, Kenzie Fitzgerald, and Justin Wolfe.
Honorary pallbearer will be Lucy Ragsdale.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the funeral home.
