ALBA – Services for Harvey Edward Roberts, 85, of Alba, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Alba with Bro. Bill Roberts and Bro. Kelly Burton officiating, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.
Masonic graveside services will be at Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Cemetery, Golden.
Mr. Roberts passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, in a Mineola nursing home.
He was born Sunday, December 22, 1929, in Mississippi, to the late Ephram Edward and Mary Louise Compton Roberts. He married Laverne Hightower December 15, 1949, in Fort Worth. He served in the Marine Corps during the time of the Korean War. He worked at the Fort Worth Zoo as a zookeeper before he started working for General Motors in Arlington as an assembly line fabricator, where he retired with more than 25 years of service. In prior churches he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, boys teacher, youth director, and was a member of the choir. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church, Alba, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Laverne Roberts of Alba; daughter, Mendy Joiner of Alba; brothers, Bill Roberts of Weatherford and Leo Roberts; sister, Betty; three grandchildren; and 2 great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Ricky Roberts and Danny Roberts; daughter Kim Roberts; sisters, Ann Roberts, Judy Roberts, and Louise Roberts; and brother, Leonard Roberts.
Pallbearers are Rigel Walker, James Rogers, Coleman Farmer, Melissa Johnson, Malorie Walker, David Miller, Colby Miller, and Ryan Norris.
Family visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
