ALBA – Services for Laverne Roberts, 83, of Alba, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Bill Roberts and Bro. Kelly Burton officiating.
Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Cemetery, Golden.
Mrs. Roberts passed away Friday, September 18, 2015, in a Mineola nursing home.
She was born Wednesday, February 24, 1932, in Frost, to the late Eurben and Eunice Brackeen Hightower. When she was 17, she worked as a cashier for Leonard’s Department Store in Fort Worth where she met Harvey Roberts who was a cook. They married on December 17, 1949. She had lived in Wood County for 27 years, was a homemaker, and a member of Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church of Alba.
Survivors include her daughter, Mendy Joiner of Alba; 2 sisters, Deloris Ray and husband David of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dorothy Harris of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Rigel Walker, Malorie Walker, and Melissa Johnson 2 great-grandchildren, Sean McFerran and Zachary McFerran; 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Roberts and Leo Roberts; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Harvey Edward Roberts, May 14, 2015; sons, Ricky Roberts and Danny Roberts; daughter, Kim Roberts; brothers, Clyde Hightower, Rex Hightower, and Wayne Hightower; sisters, Julia Hightower, Juanita Blessing, and Norma Lee; and infant sibling twins.
Pallbearers will be Rigel Walker, Malorie Walker, Melissa Johnson, Cowboy Isaacs, Coleman Farmer, and James Rogers.
Family visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 6-8 p.m.
