Services for Mr. Roddy Ray Sloan, 83, of Tyler, Texas, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Lanny Bridges officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
Roddy Sloan passed away on August 8, 2025, in Tyler. He was born August 3, 1942, in Grand Saline, at Cozby-Germany Hospital, to Alton Lee and Lora Dee Minatrea Sloan.
Roddy graduated from Van High School with the Class of 1960, attended Tyler Junior College, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas in 1964. He dedicated 26 years of service to the Texas Environmental Quality Control (TEQC) before retiring on July 31, 1998.
Following retirement, Roddy embraced country living—cultivating his blackberry farm and cherishing time spent with family and friends. His faith was an important part of his life. While a member of First Baptist Church in Tyler, he was ordained as a Deacon in 1982 and served as Director of the Royal Ambassadors. For the past 27 years, he had been a devoted member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.
Roddy was preceded in death by his mother, Lora Dee Taylor; father, Alton L. Sloan; and brother, Jerry L. Sloan.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley White Sloan of Tyler; son, Kenneth Sloan of Tyler; three grandchildren, Madison, Kendall, and Michael Sloan; Goddaughter, Carla Shipp of Longview; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Alton Sloan, Geoff Sloan, Jason Sloan, Charles Stanford, Joe Burgess, and Mark Hutson.
Jon Mitchell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
