Michael Odell Rogers was born March 27, 1956, in Grand Saline, TX to Mary Hashert Rogers and Henry Odell Rogers. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Saline and member of the GSHS class of 1974. He was employed by Morton Salt for 44 years. He was an active member of the Jubilee Sunday School Class at Main Street Baptist Church and enjoyed driving the “Fun After 55” ladies’ group to many adventures over the years. Mike was a member of Grand Saline Masonic Lodge #1269. He served on the City Council for 12 years and continued to serve the city as a volunteer as long as he was able. Mike was a servant and could often be found mowing someone’s lawn, maybe without them even knowing. He was named Grand Saline Man of The Year in 2018.
A freshly mowed lawn traded for a home cooked meal led to Mike marrying his love, Mildred, on October 21, 1983. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Lovingly known as Big Daddy, Mike loved his grandbabies dearly and was so proud of them all! He and Mimi spent countless hours and miles driving to various sporting events, school programs, church events or whatever they were involved in. Mike loved spending time with his family whether it was a family vacation, camping, or just going out to dinner.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Odell Rogers. He is survived by his wife Mildred Rogers, mother, Mary Rogers, brother Randy Rogers and wife Claudia; daughter Missy Fuller, husband Curt and son Levi; daughter Leanne Browning, husband Johnathan and daughter Landrey; son Tyler, wife Emily and children, Rozyn Roan, Doc Odell, Myrtie Jo and Haggard Lee; son Brandon Clark and wife Raven; sister-in-law, Kathy Rucker; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held Thursday, January 4 at 11:00 am at Main Street Baptist Church in Grand Saline. The family will receive visitors an hour before the service.
Memorials may be made to Main Street Baptist Church.
