James Slemmons

Services for James Kenneth “Big Daddy” Slemmons, 88, of Lone Oak are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Bull Creek Cowboy Church with Bro. Jeff Jackson officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Lone Oak.
Mr. Slemmons passed away May 21, 2020, at his residence in Lone Oak. He was born August 4, 1931, in Hunt County to James Santford and Addie Jo Shepherd Slemmons. Kenneth spent all his life in Hunt County and was a member of the Lone Oak United Methodist Church. On November 7, 1952, he married Kaye Smart in Lone Oak. Kenneth served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for and retired from the Dallas Police Department after twenty-six years of service. Kenneth was a member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge #307 of Lone Oak. He enjoyed playing poker and he loved life and lived it to the fullest. He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Mike Slemmons.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Kaye Slemmons of Lone Oak; one son, James Joseph Slemmons of Lone Oak; one daughter, Sherry Alesa Colburn of Lone Oak; twelve grandchildren, Jimmie Slemmons, Charli Wallace, Mike Slemmons, Christi Kilgore, Jeramy Slemmons, Sherry Gibson, Kasey Culley, Lacy Astorga, Shank Payne, Jake Otts, Amber Slemmons, and Roper Huddleston; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brad Harrison, Nathan Slemmons, Ethan Slemmons, Tyler Culley, Tim Peavler, Kiddo Green, Chris Fannin, and Clay Stotts. Honorary pallbearers are L.D. Kearney and Allen Hooten.
Memorials may be made to Hall Cemetery, c/o Bettie Junkin, 810 East Ridge, Red Oak, Texas 75154, or Shiloh Masonic Lodge #307, P.O. Box 131, Lone Oak, Texas 75453.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Bull Creek Cowboy Church, Lone Oak.
