Memorial services for Jerry Lee Sloan, 77, of Murphy, Texas, are scheduled for 10 am, Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Lanny Bridges officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
Mr. Sloan passed away August 18, 2018 in Wylie. Jerry was born August 21, 1940 in Grand Saline to Alton Lee and Lora Dee Minatrea Sloan. After high school he left east Texas and traveled and worked in Colorado, Alaska, China, Europe, and Tripoli, Lybia. He and his family moved back to Texas and spent most of his life in Plano, three years in Wyoming, OH, then moved back to Murphy this last year. He was a member of the United States Air Force, worked for Texas Instruments for over 25 years and retired as a manager for Loves Country Stores. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Lora Dee, and step-father Elijah Milton Taylor.
Survivors include three sons from his marriage to Karen Newland Riley, Alton Sloan of Wyoming, OH, Geoffrey Sloan and wife Jennifer of Murphy, and Jason Sloan and wife Lidia of Chula Vista, CA; one brother, Roddy Sloan and wife Shirley of Tyler; seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Elfriede, Taylor, Jackson, Jason, Jerry, and Jordan; one great-grandchild, Jayden; and numerous other relatives and friends.
