Services for Mr. James A. Smith, 77, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Bro. Donnie Herring and Bro. Ronnie Wheeler officiating.
Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.
Mr. Smith passed away July 24, 2023, in Tyler, surrounded by his family. He was born June 6, 1946, in the Whitton Community (Canton) area of Van Zandt County, to Robert Allen & Iva Bernice Plaster Smith. James grew up in the Whitton community and then moved to Dallas and worked for Dallas Power & Light. He transferred to TUGCO in Carthage, before moving to Grand Saline 39 years ago, where James was a truck driver for 30 years. He was a member of Riverside Mission Church.
James was preceded in death by his parents; three great-grandchildren, Levi Stanberry, Parker Stanberry, and Josephine Stanberry; in-laws, Morris & Ludie Bolin; sister-in-law, Glenda Bolin; and niece, Denita Harley.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jackie Bolin Smith of Grand Saline; two sons, Robert Smith of Grand Saline, and John Ben Smith & wife Jayme of Baytown; daughter, Sheree Griffin of Grand Saline; brother, Robbie Smith of Canton; sister, Debra James & husband Tommy of Canton; brother-in-law, Jerry Bolin of Grand Saline; seven grandchildren, Roby Smith and wife Rachel, Shelby Stanberry, Hallee Griffin, Hudson Griffin, Teddy Griffin, Joshua Smith, and Jett Smith; five great-grandchildren, Trenton Smith, Ellie Smith, Abbie Smith, Lane Klump, and Luke Johnson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Carlos Smith, James Cox, Robert Richardson, Hudson Griffin, Roby Smith, and BJ Bolin.
Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Smith, Jett Smith, and Teddy Griffin.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
