Services for Mr. R.J. Smith, 92, Lone Oak, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Lone Oak Assembly of God Church with Bro. Sammy Calk officiating.
Interment will follow in Hall Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith passed away August 26, 2019 in Sulphur Springs. He was born August 7, 1927, to Ruby Eugene & Carrie Piner Clinton Smith in Westminster. He spent most of his life in Hunt County. R.J. graduated from Campbell High School and ETSU Commerce. He taught vocational agriculture and retired from teaching at 35 years of service. He also worked as an auctioneer in farm equipment auctions. Mr. Smith was a member of Lone Oak Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Ann Smith; son, Jeffrey Harlan Smith; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Twila Scroggins of Commerce; stepdaughter, Lisa Willis of Lone Oak; three grandchildren, Rusty Smith, Jill Smith and Terry Scroggins; three great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Rhonda, who helped R.J. in so many ways; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Smith, John Suits, Tim Bain, Ricky Browning, Cody Blanton and Rusty Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Martin, James Lambert and Jerry Stevens.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
