Tommy Clyde Stephens – June 15, 1937 – January 19, 2012
Tommy Stephens, 74, of Grand Saline died Thursday, January 19, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children, several grandchildren, and relatives when he passed away.
Tommy is survived by his three children and their families; daughter Lynn and her husband Gary of Longview and their three children, Brandon, Katherine, and Allyssa; son Tommy Clyde Jr. (T-Tom) and Betty of Sidney and his two sons, Wade and Colt; and son Brock and his wife Sarah of Goldsboro, NC and their son Wyatt. He was also faithfully accompanied until his death by loving companion, Sherry Allen. Tommy leaves behind three siblings; Wanda Dickerson, Patsy Savage, and Jimmy Stephens. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Lou Stephens and William Stephens; and brother, Bobby Joe Stephens.
Tommy is best remembered as a hard-working rancher and leader in the community. He spent his life in Grand Saline and graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1955. He worked for the railroad, Morton Salt, and eventually opened Stephens Farm Supply. He was a founding member of the Grand Saline Rodeo Association. In recent years he has served on the Grand Saline ISD School Board, the Grand Saline Economic Development Board, and the Creagleville Cemetery Board of Directors.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bartley Funeral Home in Grand Saline. Visitation will be Saturday, January 21 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 22 at the Bartley Chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow at Creagleville Cemetery. Tommy will be honored by pallbearers Mark Means, Carl Stanford, Dewayne Moseley, and Cliff, Ryan, and Phillip Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Moody, Wiley Garland, Lonnie Humphrey, Roy Lee Jackson, John Means, Wayne Sloan, Mike Land, William Shafer, Jim Bozeman, Larry Martin, Truman Heddins, Ronnie Gray, James Woods, Thomas Kindle, Dale Duke, Leon Clowers, and Bob Adkins.
