Steven Swoape

October 13, 1972 — February 28, 2023

Steven “Sport” Coleman Swoape, caring son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 28, 2023, at the age of 50.

Services for Sport are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Fred Morrow officiating, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba.

Interment will follow in Golden City Cemetery.

Sport is the oldest of four children, born to Loyd and Beth Swoape on October 13, 1972, in Tyler, Texas. An Honor Graduate of the Alba-Golden Class of 1991, he thrived in Agriculture and Mathematics. He learned and developed his skills as a brick mason from his father and grandfather. Then went on to hone his craft where he became a master craftsman, he could do anything. Practical projects and works of art came from his shop. He loved a challenge.

He was an adventurous outdoorsman, learning to scuba dive, spending his time fishing and being outdoors with his family, from beach vacations to camping trips. Sport enjoyed the simple, country life of gardening, tending to his cows and land, and the lost art of visiting, either on your front porch or the tailgate, just to spend time with you.

Sport will be deeply missed by all of his loved ones and his memory will continue with all those who loved and cared for him.

Sport is preceded in death by grandparents, Steve and Jessie Stevenson; grandparents, Loyd and Shirley Swoape; uncle, Bill Stevenson; uncle, Jim Stevenson; nephew, Connor Curts; cousin, David Stevenson; nephews, Coleman and Lil’ Jese Swoape.

He is survived by Lesa Dollar; stepdaughter, Skye Dollar; his parents, Loyd and Beth Swoape; his sister and brother-in-law, Teri and Danny Curts; niece, Morgan Maberry, husband Cameron, and son Connor Cash; nephew, Ramsey Curts; niece, Jessica Swoape; his brother and sister-in-law, Dusty and Christina Swoape; niece, Emerson Swoape, niece, Bransyn Swoape; nephew, Sawyer Swoape; his brother and sister-in-law, Jese and Kait Swoape, son, Cooper Manhart; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Martin Swoape, Brent Swoape, Brad Swoape, Sean Tucker, Scott Monroe, and Michael Barnhart.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday at First Baptist Church, Alba.

All are welcome to join the family for lunch after the service at the Golden Community Center.
