Joe Thompson

Services for Mr. Walter Joe Thompson, 74, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2015, at Bartley Funeral Home with Father Victor Hernandez officiating.
Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson passed away January 20, 2015, in Tyler. He was born October 19, 1940, in Taylor to Walter Calvin & Buena Buchanan Thompson. Joe spent his early years in Edna, Victoria and Wrightsboro, many years in Dallas, 15 years in Crandall and the last 10 years in Grand Saline. He graduated high school from San Marcos Military Academy and later obtained his associate degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the U. S. Army National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant for Dallas Co. Sheriff's Office. Joe was a member of Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and The Decker Club of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy Bird Thompson of Grand Saline; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Kevin & Amy Thompson of Hannas Pond, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie & Cody Hathcock of Grand Saline; five grandchildren, Brittany, Shelbey, Kori, Russell and Drew; sister-in-law, Nancy Cawthon of Grand Saline; and nephew, Brian Terrell Cawthon of Grand Saline.
Pallbearers will be Cody Hathcock, Kevin Thompson, Taylor Garrett, Brian Cawthon, Jason Hathcock and Kane Kizzia.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the funeral home.
